One of the most relevant processes involved in the construction of 'objects of desire' is the role of advertising. I've found a good article which analyses the way that adverts deliver ideologies as a means of constructing products as desireable. Reading this will also be a good way to revise semiotics, which you haven't explicitly studied since last year. Click here to read the article...

There's an interesting article on the BBC News website about the extent to which Britain's colonial rule has contributed to the problems being suffered around the world now - two different viewpoints are offered, one defending the legacy of colonialism, one challenging that viewpoint.
